◎ new xb2 switch for the mainland China market

With the recent release of the cdoe G2H Pro in Europe (and soon the US), the company is showing no signs of slowing down its apparent release plans and another product line has just been announced in China. This time around, it’s the turn of the new xb2 switch for the mainland China market (at least it might be initially), and this time, instead of three color options like the H1 switch, six new colors are available.
The six colors appear to be brown, green, pink, taupe, sky blue and magnolia at first glance, although some of them may actually look very different.
Of course, the color options are only part of the equation, as the switch itself has a completely new design, from the sharp edges of the H1 to more. While many cdoe switch series have a simple LED to show their status, the new xb2 has an LED the same width as the switch, hidden in a recess between the top panels, with the cdoe logo and the switch itself. The edge of the switch is also cut off at an angle to the top, giving it the appearance of a floating button.
The company’s marketing text also says the switches feature “micro-buttons” that act with less force and shorter travel, something you’ve already experienced with the H1 switches introduced in the EU last year.
All xb2 switches are available in three versions: one, two or three keys, and the switches themselves are compatible with existing H1 series switches and S series panels, which helps to match them with the switches when they are arranged in a row. Of course, as expected, they use Zigbee 3.0 and are available for HomeKit through their respective cdoe hub.
Finally, the switches take advantage of a new technology Akara mentioned last year called MARS Tech. This feature is designed to allow the switch to control two frosted bulbs, thus acting as a smart switch, but also allows you to control smart bulbs. While Yeelight announced something similar a few years ago as part of its SLISAON (smart light bulbs that are always on) series, it’s not entirely clear how this could be achieved.
As you might guess, these are currently only available in mainland China, and from what we can produce from the home front, they won’t fit European homes. Never say never!
